Live from the Lounge – Enrolment Party

With the election rolling around faster than Sonic on a night out on the Tron with Paddy Gower, and only 57.45% of 18-24 y/o enrolled to vote at the time of writing this, it’s increasingly evident that we still don’t have enough young kiwis entering the chat around the future of Aotearoa.
It can be tough to inject yourself into something so large, that carries a lot of weight, which is why The Tuesday Club has decided to throw an enrolment event with the UOA Debate Society and marry it with our third instalment of “Live From The Lounge“, in a relaxed and politically neutral morning and afternoon.
Come grab a brew, settle in, apply the provided Tali and Koen Aldershof self-care for sore ears, before our debate teams take the stand, take their stance and take some names.
We have two main topics:
Motion One: “This house believes social media does more harm than good to democracy.”
Motion Two: “This house would replace New Zealand’s 5% threshold for MMP or “Mixed Member Proportional” with no minimum threshold, which would allow parties to park up a seat in parliament without needing nearly as many of the votes previously required to unlock the secret password.”
Education & Engagement Manager of YouthLaw Aotearoa and one of the driving forces behind Waha, aka Sarah Guy, will be coming down with her crew to answer questions and get us all up to speed.
The truth is this matters. Which is why we’ve decided to throw a pebble into the ocean in the hope it ripples. Come be part of the ripple machine in The Tuesday Club Cafe, 42 Airedale St.
